It all started in March 2020, when we had the first lockdown, everything seemed like an apocalyptic scene from a movie.
After several extension of that confusing period with no clear indication when it will be over, we started to worry about continuity in education as the children were gradually forgetting about what they learnt at school. From there, we began the "homeschooling" journey transforming the dining room table into a mixed school-office desk with my 2 kids sitting next to me to learn while I worked. After one week, I was drowning, I realized that I was doing 4 full time jobs (teacher for 2 kids of different grades, my office work, cooking 3 times a day and household chores... I guess all these speak to you as well ;-) We really tested our multi tasking aptitudes and stress management.)
Amidst the explanations, exercise practices and going back to explanations again, the challenge was about lengthy work corrections and we also tend to get emotional when we see "silly mistakes" from our own children. This is when we started thinking of a platform which can help us, parents, to follow the progress of our children and support them whenever needed without having to act like their teacher. As everything we do start with a lot of researches, we looked for several options around the globe and we found many good platforms which were designed for international curriculum but all these needed tweaks for our children in Mauritius especially at primary level.
From there, the project of LearnOnLine started which main objective was to provide a platform fully based on the M.I.E syllabuses to help children practise questions and have instant correction.
Our aim is to support parents, teachers and children in Mauritius so that there is continuity in education no matter what the circumstances are. We also would like to see educators - children interactions be more qualitative with more time spent in explanations and less time in work corrections.
